3 Reasons Why Break-Ins Are More Common Through The Holidays

After my business started to slow down a little bit, I realized that there were some serious problems with our "old school" way of doing things. Since we didn't have a computer, it was really hard to keep up with inventory, and ordering was a nightmare. I realized that I wanted to make our lives all a little easier, so I started focusing on incorporating more and more technology into our workplace. Within a few years, our business had completely turned around, and it was really great to see. Check out this blog for great ideas on incorporating technology into your business.

According to statistics, there are 3.7 million home burglaries every year. To put that into perspective, that is one home every seven minutes. Unfortunately, there tends to be an uptick in those numbers through the holidays in a lot of places. While you are focused on merry memories and time with family, criminals are focusing on stealing your joy and whatever else they can get their hands on. When it comes down to it, there are good reasons why home break-ins happen more during the holiday season, which is why you should do all you can to elevate your home security before the onset of the season, including shopping for alarm systems.

Many people travel through the holidays and leave their home alone.

About 6.4 million people travel by air between December 23rd and January 1st, according to estimates by AAA. Another 97.4 million will travel by car. These numbers go to show just how many people will not be home during the holidays. Even though break-ins do happen when people are at home, most of them take place when the house is empty because there will be less resistance. Criminals often scope out homes and even keep tabs on people on social media to find out when they will be away from home to catch an open opportunity.

Some thieves are looking to make their own holiday season brighter.

There is a lot of strain put on some people through the holidays who do not have the means to give their families the gifts and experience they want. Unfortunately, this fact can mean that there are more people willing to go out and steal from someone else just to make their own holiday a little brighter. There have even been news reports of stolen Christmas trees and stolen holiday yard decorations

Holiday homes can offer easy-to-find loot.

If you go into a house during the holidays and you want to find the most valuable things, where is one place you would look? The fact is, a lot of holiday homes have a hefty stash of loot propped up under their tree, and criminals know this fact. Slipping and stealing the gifts under the tree makes for a quick in-and-out job, and just doing this can yield thousands of dollars worth of stuff. Most adults expect to spend approximately $885 on holiday gifts for 2018, which is a good indicator of just how much value could be hanging out under any given tree.
